Mortification

Mortification too has gotten a bad name and is often associated with a feeling of shame. By mortification, Vincent meant for us to subject one's passion to reason. We need only look at the Gospel of Luke to find a myriad of examples of how to do this.

We practice it through:

  • renouncing one good thing in order to do a better thing

 

  • recognising our goals and channelling our limited energies into achieving themselves

 

  • learning to let go
